LeBron James Biopic Filmmakers Hit the Streets of Akron for Their Star

Shooting Stars Director Chris Robinson on Filming in Akron and the 18-Month Hunt to Find Their LeBron James

A Look at the Young Life.

We wanted to be diligent in our search," Robinson told TODAY. "We wanted to find someone who could embody LeBron on and off the court, and who had the charisma and star power to carry the film."

The filmmakers scoured the country, holding open casting calls and meeting with hundreds of young actors. They finally found their LeBron in Akron, Ohio, where James grew up and starred for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

Isaiah Hill, a 14-year-old freshman, will play James in the film. Hill has been playing basketball since he was 5 years old, and he credits James as his inspiration for the game.

"LeBron is my idol," Hill said. "He's the reason why I started playing basketball. I'm so excited to have the opportunity to play him in this film."

Robinson said he was impressed by Hill's natural athleticism and his ability to capture James's mannerisms and personality.

"Isaiah is a special talent," Robinson said. "He has the perfect combination of skills and personality to play LeBron James. I can't wait to see him bring this character to life."

The filmmakers are currently shooting the film in Akron and Cleveland, and they are expected to wrap up production in the fall. Shooting Stars is set to be released in 2023.
