Taipei, Taiwan - A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake has struck Taiwan, leaving at least seven people dead and 700 injured. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred on Tuesday morning, with its epicenter located off the eastern coast of Hualien County. The temblor is considered the strongest to hit Taiwan in a quarter century.

The earthquake has triggered widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure. Over 180 aftershocks have been recorded, including two with magnitudes exceeding 6.0. The Taiwan Central Weather Bureau has issued a tsunami warning, although it has since been lifted.

Emergency services are currently working to rescue survivors and assess the extent of the damage. The government has deployed troops to affected areas to assist in search and rescue operations. The full extent of the casualties and property damage is still being determined.

Taiwan is located in a seismically active region known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. The island nation has experienced numerous earthquakes in the past, including a devastating 7.6-magnitude quake in 1999 that killed over 2,400 people.
